Gate Valve

A Gate Valve is the most common type of valve used in heavy industry. It is a linear-motion valve designed effectively as a "sliding door" (the gate) that moves up and down to open or close the pipeline.
It is designed strictly for Isolation (On/Off service). This means it should always be fully open or fully closed. It is not used for regulating flow because the high velocity of fluid can damage the wedge when partially open. When fully open, it provides a "full bore" flow area, meaning there is almost zero pressure drop, making it ideal for main supply lines.
